Tiraz is an online store based in Lucknow. The word ‘tiraz’ is derived from the Persian word taraz/teraz, meaning embroidery. It is a kind of an embroidered fabric meant for royal garments and thus is a mark of honour and prestige.
Chikankari has been practiced in and around the city of Lucknow for almost 200 years. It is a Persian craft, brought to the Mughal court of emperor Jahangir, by his wife Noor Jahan. Thus this ethereal, white floral embroidery got royal patronage and recognition. When the Mughal court disintegrated, some of the craftsmen came and settled in Lucknow, bringing their craft with them. Here the Nawabs of Awadh played a crucial role in promoting and preserving this art form.
Our vision is to preserve the rich cultural legacy of the art of chikankari passed down through generations and give it a global platform.
The word’ chikan’ comes from the Persian word ’chikeen’ which means a kind of embroidered fabric. Traditionally sheer fabrics like cambric and muslin were used to embroider elaborate patterns of flowers, leaves, paisleys and symmetrical motifs, using only white threads. These designs were inspired by nature and the Persian art. Nowadays, the embroidery is also done in multi-coloured threads with different combinations and contrasts.
Our aim is to make exclusive and premium chikan wear and offer them at competitive prices, with no compromise on quality.
Our main objective is to bring the most premium handcrafted chikankari to your wardrobe from Lucknow. Keeping in mind the changing times and the tastes of our valued customers, we endeavor to deliver to them the classic chikankari in a contemporary mode. Along with the popular whites, there is a wide range of colours, from solids to pastels, to suit your different moods. Our products display the craftsmanship of our workers who skillfully combine different stitches on a single garment. Chikankari uses thirty two types of stitches, each with a specialist of its own. The beauty of these stitches is
further enhanced by the addition of aari-zardozi and kaamdaani work. This is done to keep pace with the changing trends and to cater to the expectations and requirements of both our domestic and international clientele.
We also have special offerings for our gen z customers, giving them a reason to feel proud of their rich cultural heritage. thus connecting them to their roots. Our chikan kurtis are ideal for college and office wear.
Not only the customers, we also take care of our artisans who work diligently on each piece for days on end to create a work of art yet remaining obscure. We ensure that they get their respective due. It’s our little but sincere effort to contribute to their economic upliftment.
But I must explain to you how all this mistaken idea of denouncing pleasure and praising pain was born and I will give you a complete account of the system, and expound the actual teachings of the great explorer of the truth, the master-builder of human happiness.
